The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. * r3 i2 U3 A) r. n2 [. _; r5 Z9 g
. A8 { T- R+ b4 f& U5 \Key tasks:" D& j0 d8 f' x0 k
• Undertake research and analysis.
, h3 b4 k; X' ^ • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.; X' K0 E; t8 ]) ^& u
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.1 P" K; u" A9 X+ J3 k4 ?& w" B
• Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
S! v% o, m6 Y- ?8 W" H1 F • Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.2 @. q) _* w4 L5 n7 {2 W9 s2 ?
• Translate official correspondence.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
; |* s% ^# A, Y; @% }. V • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.+ U% {0 U' b, ~" T( g0 }# e
• Translation and interpretation skills.

• Research and analytical skills.( T' ~- n# h4 t/ f: X) s8 R
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload. , D; ]5 _9 F6 l" K3 @: r& R9 L
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
4 Z+ n/ N! J" U' R* U1 t • Flexibility and adaptability.
' q4 o1 n! v# z/ m' k8 p4 x! A • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.1 Q% T. o( h" v+ Z, T1 `
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.* _1 I( u; l- [3 k* {# @8 h# X: w+ |
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
