The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

Key tasks:
3 w) [+ n2 V. b, m% A4 D • Undertake research and analysis.- R0 W+ R. u' ?
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
) s0 G" e& _, x& w& A • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.' f; j- N* s6 k+ T$ o
• Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.6 i, t+ o0 n6 ]9 Q
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
; i Z" a& s% P) r • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.$ B$ I; D0 L$ Z6 f0 q7 U# ~/ m' j+ O
• Translation and interpretation skills.# P' P7 D' B8 Z; }: ^
• Relevant tertiary qualification
" m: t) O6 a1 G5 |1 o2 q& i • Research and analytical skills.0 i) x1 {- B4 ^
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload. 2 E! G* l5 I6 J7 g6 |3 y- e
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
9 w# k% i# f1 [# m5 u • Flexibility and adaptability.
) ^; p& a* ?) T$ b • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
+ I9 K; g$ e8 B% u% ~* B0 | • Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.& L _. M: b$ U& [: Q
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
