The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. % n! u" c: }" H- m7 g; T

Key tasks:
2 }4 y/ x% F1 o7 i' u1 C0 B • Undertake research and analysis.
: M* e# s( Q# ]$ A) Q8 ~ \7 _6 e • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.. ~, }5 a1 t# D
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
, H% g' X. S! k, x" I- @ • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.6 S/ d7 {/ K- C5 i: k0 c5 Q& X/ G
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.: }; w4 A) E- K: H" s
• Translate official correspondence.. Q* j. E. @( l. T+ m

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
) T% a6 w$ a% w2 g1 J • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.7 a6 ]* H) H. j6 |$ ]
• Translation and interpretation skills.' c8 z$ ?* @" d- f1 d( t0 j( d9 {
• Relevant tertiary qualification
* d7 k9 C7 r5 c1 j( i7 j X: t • Research and analytical skills., W( t& D. S$ ~* x: \% T( C
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload. / s. I8 k) c4 Y& { C1 U4 `3 f
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. + v# Q' ^. @" Z! H/ N" [ o7 z8 G
• Flexibility and adaptability.
; A, w" K( b8 h • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
1 \! Y. k1 s3 g% M, m5 O' `' I • Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.

• Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
