China divides its police into more than 20 categories based on their specific tasks.

When you call 110, the police hotline in China, an officer who picks up the phone is commonly known as a “public security police officer”, whose primary tasks include maintaining social order and dealing with minor unlawful activities.
当你打110，也就是中国的报警电话，接线的警官一般是治安警察。治安警察的主要任务是维护社会秩序以及处理一般犯罪案件。
But when a serious crime happens, it requires forces specializing in investigating criminal cases or the criminal police.
但当严重犯罪案件发生时，这需要专门处理此类案件的警官进行调查，也就是刑警。
If a case involves narcotics, the “anti-drug police” will get involved whether it's foiling drug deals or chasing after traffickers.
当案件涉及毒品，辑毒警察就会介入，打击毒品交易、缉捕毒贩。
The “armed police” have a wide range of responsibilities that are essential to maintaining social stability. They include protecting internal security, riot control, counter-terrorism, disaster response, law enforcement, maritime security, as well as safeguarding territorial sovereignty.

Apart from these, there are also police personnel working in the judicial system. Their main duties include maintaining security and judicial departments, including the courts and procuratorates. They also help with the transportation of defendants and prisoners between courts, jails and assist in law enforcement.
