COVID-19 and AIDS
HIV/AIDS is far from over. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there are signs the HIV epidemic may be accelerating. This would be devastating for communities and countries. This is largely due to a breakdown in essential HIV services, especially HIV prevention and testing services, and fewer newly-diagnosed people starting HIV treatment.
If we do not pick up the pace for preventing new infections and finding and treating those with HIV, we will miss our 2030 goals. That’s why the WHO is calling on global leaders and citizens to rally for global solidarity to maintain essential HIV services during COVID-19 and beyond:
By finding innovative ways to safely deliver person-centered HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care services.
By ensuring that all groups of people at risk continue to obtain the services they need.
By protecting, engaging and supporting the nurses, midwives and community health workers working on the frontline of HIV and COVID-19.
By renewing our fight to end AIDS.
Let’s work together to halt COVID-19 and get back on track to end AIDS by 2030.
