50 years ago, this man changed the world, by seeing it in a way no one ever had before. Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space and on Tuesday the United Nations celebrated the "International Day of Human Space Flight," half a century to the day after that first flight into the unknown. As well as celebrating the men and women in the suits, the Day recognizes that Space science and technology also helps to achieve progress in areas like agriculture, meteorology, telecoms and biology.
50年前，这个人改变了世界，他看到了从来没有人看到的世界。前苏联宇航员尤里•加加林是第一位到外层空间的人。周二，在他首次飞向未知空间半世纪后的这一天，联合国庆祝“载人空间飞行国际日”。除了庆祝男女宇航员外，这一天还庆祝空间科学和技术在帮助农业、气象、电信和生物学领域所取得的进展。
Vitaly Churkin is Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN. "We hope that this day, April 12th, will become a genuinely universal celebration of common aspirations of humanity, for outer space belongs to us all, and we all share the dreams it inspires." A dream that is still realized today.
丘尔金是俄罗斯常驻联合国代表：我们希望4月12日这一天的庆祝活动将成为真正的、普遍的、人类的共同心声，外层空间属于我们大家的。我们都因它而有共同的梦想，今天这一梦想仍然在得以实现。
Cosmonauts currently orbiting the Earth on the International Space Station delivered their own message to the world. Dimitri Kondratyev is one of them. "one can see how much remains to be done to stop conflicts, to provide a peaceful life and prosperity to all peoples living on our planet. We're glad that future generations will be able to celebrate the 12th of April as the International Day of Human Space Flight."
