POLICY ADVISER/INTERPRETER

+ B: Q0 J  c! bThe New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team.  The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.  
! Y5 |8 g9 v& ]7 t
Key tasks:
1 s) q2 J' h5 c' {$ H! q5 G3 o# J2 n        •        Undertake research and analysis.
# ^4 i  g* f' ]' a  A3 w" J0 ?        •        Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
* @& m6 _0 Q& l5 j3 \  y+ K3 E' V        •        Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
        •        Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
( H3 c) W/ o& I3 s) d9 Q        •        Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.
$ a+ `+ c5 ]2 c4 h% F4 \2 `        •        Translate official correspondence.


- P9 E. @: H$ m1 e, wThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
        •        High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
        •        Translation and interpretation skills.
        •        Relevant tertiary qualification
        •        Research and analytical skills.

) p9 ~) \) r" e( V1 R        •        Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.

2 w, c6 @: d2 y3 e9 C        •        Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
) r! a0 r# J: x) j2 M7 O        •        Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
        •        Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
        •        Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
