The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

/ c0 z$ P% E) o% Y • Undertake research and analysis.' O+ Z$ S* y8 r) T6 q( v# ?: U
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.7 e. w) H* F" \- W# R- ]7 F$ b# K
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
$ o( d; k0 ^/ L0 v( N$ C( k0 l • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.: s4 u1 H' y9 a g; u
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.$ Q* g& w% p9 a: B

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:- H; c0 D6 ~0 ]9 U, x
• High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.6 B( A4 r: Q4 @) D( t
• Translation and interpretation skills.( \/ r6 K; O- U5 m9 g! \5 H
• Relevant tertiary qualification' y S! k( H$ u; Z- C
• Research and analytical skills.9 p5 [, O. `$ ^' f1 O
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
; F" Y5 F1 b! d" p • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. 6 E: F) z. {2 h+ |- u
• Flexibility and adaptability.
5 F) B! |: ]: Z2 _* C: N. b • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
8 J3 H5 y1 E0 r • Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.# r5 y3 o$ l, {/ s2 I: I+ ]
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).7 H6 q3 Z5 m/ P5 c$ O8 Y: A
