The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. 8 H+ }1 V, z, R
% B4 t4 t1 U6 _Key tasks:
# z: g4 ]( z# c8 z8 d • Undertake research and analysis.! B" w+ {; q; C
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.6 ?( I6 h4 B t0 i0 [
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
- o: B9 t7 U+ q9 @* J • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
# }5 M. N6 P3 b/ r7 q4 ^/ Y3 t, R • Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.; X( a* {3 Y y( w5 D1 y d
• Translate official correspondence.

# `( R: a# m+ i$ r K rThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
w4 D' \, N( @& g • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.9 q# G3 H2 K# ?) g
• Translation and interpretation skills.
: @4 w$ G7 e; M8 t0 N • Relevant tertiary qualification
6 [/ M$ m% w2 _ • Research and analytical skills.
2 p3 z# {1 H! i. ^7 L9 q • Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
. Z( K: s2 }& ?0 D' S • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. & a6 J$ h4 q& E7 K3 W
• Flexibility and adaptability.
* V2 k0 p0 K7 u9 n; H • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.1 Q! w* x# y0 F
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
& P) M( o- J. ` • Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
