1 [" {4 X6 U O# P! }The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. % w2 a+ Z- S+ a8 s. i v
1 ^; T4 p: P( q, h* U! IKey tasks:; d" i0 R9 x6 a, d( |6 w* h
• Undertake research and analysis.8 s r) q( o* s, @7 H+ S' k% _0 K, T
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
& L Q* U) P* f( ]0 s: w1 y • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
1 i& S/ ? l, w$ N+ j1 V • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.6 V4 V; H, M1 k, f6 z) x1 W( L! {
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.

4 P* d3 J& B9 SThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:) \) E: d# [# h& y2 V {
• High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
: D/ E0 C" O& }% T3 P • Translation and interpretation skills.& Y7 j K& t8 C( ~
• Relevant tertiary qualification
* ~; \3 s+ s3 [1 Q, v • Research and analytical skills.& v0 M) [7 l3 @% Y0 b! b) l3 y9 u
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload. 3 C* F, `: C8 N( y0 |8 s1 ^/ k( b
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. - n( m0 }1 z3 ]% H% h" `
• Flexibility and adaptability.
% e4 v+ t; [) a7 l X" q • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.0 k- }+ J1 h1 }
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.

' g- p6 \- \7 I( r) J • Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
