The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. 0 F' c( E- J. I# u8 Y

• Undertake research and analysis.+ q# ^/ ?5 t5 k% x- P( j
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.: @. C+ w+ p$ A. n
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions. B9 }$ d0 O+ w
• Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
9 Q7 r/ V. f% s! | • Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.9 o& F& H7 Q+ U. o3 G2 P5 [
• Translate official correspondence.) X" R- P% z2 s. S, z6 z

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:9 T, @, |1 O' V+ ^3 h
• High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.% ]! p, Q( G' D. R8 y
• Translation and interpretation skills.
0 K( |/ R, h E5 L. f8 V0 Q% } • Relevant tertiary qualification! w4 U+ n% i" |. C$ ~) ]4 f" S1 r
• Research and analytical skills.
# a+ r' k. d. A/ N0 X • Well organised, able to manage a large workload. 5 B2 i" c0 C" c; c% t/ R7 q- Y
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
7 R3 L# a* D- p# V • Flexibility and adaptability.
" B5 H. P* @( T5 j3 v# C • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
4 I; ^% ?) o. U9 C • Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.6 x+ @4 ?+ G+ ^5 a5 Y
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).) ~% Q3 r2 q5 p; t- v0 v4 d
• Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.- O& }1 ~' S) ?9 t
