POLICY ADVISER/INTERPRETER

The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. % I% K+ D, I3 L$ Y3 y; g* q
, g$ U5 o) s( k: ^5 q E
Key tasks: b7 a% h8 u( E- Z" E
• Undertake research and analysis.
$ r4 E7 A m- B! M • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.) c; h8 @. Z3 E- i! {/ R, S
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
4 L! g: C I4 p • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.$ y: ~" [+ J. `$ G& ?0 y& F7 B1 B9 B
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.( C3 d8 n( L0 I) a+ Z
• Translate official correspondence.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
6 r8 Z; j9 f$ f, w8 t/ V( d • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
, p6 v( i5 o, @' A' r _ • Translation and interpretation skills.
! x8 m: J1 {7 t6 c. V • Relevant tertiary qualification
@* w( j: l- l( }9 O • Research and analytical skills.
$ @- |3 y# U/ h& w" ^- _9 ` • Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
% ~ d1 N6 R! p! j • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. 9 F5 J* D- Z Z- `0 [% W) D3 ~8 |$ |
• Flexibility and adaptability.3 f& {+ M7 O k$ g" c6 P
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
# ^1 u- P, M( p5 j Z • Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
! w5 N' E. B$ { • Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).' p9 r+ E) G+ a! H* o& P& b4 v/ E' L
• Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.! {/ z+ v7 q: L }4 h
