The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

• Undertake research and analysis.
3 J4 b. J! ?5 k7 G( N& N% D • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
' E( i, s+ R8 X1 Y6 | • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
/ D; |, _/ Z5 b4 v# v • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
$ v% X+ Q+ H+ f. s! o( ?& |/ R • Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.
/ j& G" w7 i' g- h! T. L. v( T • Translate official correspondence.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
, E9 U! m; l( ^" X" T; R& L9 q • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
) w. Z: x, a9 w, n1 u& f2 |( e# P" G7 X • Translation and interpretation skills.
% B4 @: v$ b% k+ d • Relevant tertiary qualification9 l" [! g/ z/ D7 d/ F1 s7 k" c
• Research and analytical skills.
' G/ M5 J' l; w0 d8 s5 o • Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
_4 w* |! k- {/ U/ v* l: O6 T( l • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. ! p* d& M, a7 d- s; R' {
• Flexibility and adaptability.5 _( u; A0 o- }! |! h% z) @# W
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.- U* [% x9 {, a, _/ f0 Z
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.# X/ x0 u# R9 v* T- l8 a l
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
