The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. ' L! D' X3 M7 A: a

: k9 R( }0 m M3 |( R. l3 `0 N • Undertake research and analysis.
% W @4 {2 t D- `0 f# b4 ? • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.# c; T7 ?6 x: [5 I K" \
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
7 T" `) I+ \6 X5 U! j; y5 ^ • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.0 z/ U6 D; T3 l: e( u: ]
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.! X: a7 I% ^2 h: P* f4 }8 U4 J( J
• Translate official correspondence.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
; C* |5 C( V0 ]6 v • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
1 Z& U' N0 ^+ P4 C • Translation and interpretation skills.
* H0 s$ b+ H& P4 e: b& k ^" ~, z8 s • Relevant tertiary qualification/ h- x$ ?& J( A4 t; L& }2 O7 f7 A
• Research and analytical skills.: N; [9 A# ^0 B$ I
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
3 j! x0 r' a0 r# K. J( U+ p% F • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. 4 b) y5 ]0 |: m }( Y
• Flexibility and adaptability.
! Q0 \; R, V. Y% z • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.1 n( Y E+ p; Q: B E9 G
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.0 T5 r7 J# ^. ?" V5 {- F- ]
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).# W' [( s- {& m" x% k* C% \
• Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
