As Xiamen University marks its 100th anniversary, I would like to extend my warm congratulations and sincere greetings to all faculty, students and alumni of the university at home and abroad.
厦门大学是一所具有光荣传统的大学，由著名爱国华侨领袖陈嘉庚先生于1921年创立，是中国现代教育史上第一所由华侨创办的大学。
Xiamen University is a university with glorious tradition. Established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah-kee, the university was the first to be founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education.
100年来，学校始终秉持“自强不息，止于至善”的校训以及为国家和人民服务的立校志向，培养了超过40万名校友。
Over the past century, the university has remained committed to its motto of "Pursue Excellence; Strive for Perfection" and has been motivated by a desire to serve the country and the people. It boasts over 400,000 alumni.
厦门大学培养了大批优秀人才，为国家富强、人民幸福和中华文化海外传播作出了积极贡献。
Xiamen University has fostered a large number of talented people and made positive contributions to making the country more prosperous, bringing happiness to people and promoting the dissemination of Chinese culture abroad.
我国已开启全面建设社会主义现代化国家新征程。希望厦门大学全面贯彻党的教育方针，切实落实立德树人根本任务，为党育人、为国育才，为全面建设社会主义现代化国家、实现中华民族伟大复兴的中国梦作出新的更大贡献。
As China has embarked on a journey to fully build a modern socialist country, I hope that Xiamen University will further carry out the Party's education policy, earnestly concentrate on fostering virtues through education and cultivate talented people for the Party and the country and make a greater contribution to building a modern socialist China and realizing the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation.
