The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

Key tasks:
9 z; w w7 }; z • Undertake research and analysis.
* p+ t2 O% {0 [/ z- b/ r% ?9 c9 d& B • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
6 ?& X+ t5 r7 b9 H4 [; K* u • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
# ~2 Z8 ~$ ?; U5 h, X( S7 A • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.2 Q1 i3 S4 T0 {9 T1 ^
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.4 \( X6 j: {" i* l- |- T1 m
• Translate official correspondence.

• High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
! a. M. U2 I6 X) Q w • Translation and interpretation skills.( H/ y/ ?) f# S1 z
• Relevant tertiary qualification- L# h7 w+ d y( h
• Research and analytical skills.
9 S1 T8 R7 P$ {7 u • Well organised, able to manage a large workload. 9 t$ {# V# O# t4 K" U
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
' M+ y. f: W6 e- V+ Y • Flexibility and adaptability.
% e& K! \$ t6 n) Z • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.( U+ z5 `3 k3 B2 w) N/ Q
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.6 v+ \+ ^$ U: Q
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
