2018年12月13日，驻新西兰大使吴玺应邀出席在新国家博物馆举办的“秦始皇兵马俑：永恒的守卫”展览开幕式并致辞。新西兰旅游部长凯尔文·戴维斯、贸易和出口增长部长戴维·帕克等政要、多名议员、驻新使节及新各界民众等近700人出席活动。

尊敬的贾斯廷·莱斯特市长及其他各位市长，
尊敬的埃文·威廉斯先生，
尊敬的钱继奎副局长，
女士们，先生们，

很高兴出席在新西兰国家博物馆举办的“秦始皇兵马俑:永恒的守卫”展览开幕式。

It is my great honour and pleasure to join you at Te Papa, the National Museum of New Zealand to launch the landmark exhibition Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality.

我愿借此机会向为筹备此次展览辛勤付出的所有人表示衷心的感谢。感谢陕西省、新西兰国家博物馆以及包括中国南方航空公司在内的赞助商，特别感谢帕克部长和戴维斯部长对此次展览的宝贵支持和大力推动。

I want to take the opportunity to give my sincere thanks to those who have been working so hard and so long to make this exhibition possible. My appreciation goes to Shan'xi province, the Tepapa management, all the sponsors, including China Southern and other Chinese companies. In particular, I want to thank Minister Parker and Minister Davis for their valuable support and encouragement to the exhibition.

兵马俑是中国艺术和文明的瑰宝，被誉为世界八大奇迹之一。32年前，兵马俑首次来到新西兰。如今，他们再次穿越千年、跨越万里来到南太平洋，让古老的中华文明与新西兰文明在此交流互鉴。此次展览是今年中新人文交流的一大亮点，同时拉开了2019中国-新西兰旅游年的序幕。

The terracotta army represents a treasure of ancient Chinese art and civilization, and is one of the eight wonders in the world. Terracotta warriors first came to New Zealand 32 year ago. Now once again they have come through thousands of years and crossed thousand of miles to reach the south pacific. The exhibition has offered an excellent opportunity for the ancient Chinese civilization to interact with young civilization in New Zealand. It serves as a highlight of the people-to-people exchanges between China and New Zealand this year. It also preludes the 2019 China-New Zealand year of Tourism.

秦始皇在公元前221年统一中国，并下令建造兵马俑，修筑长城。自那时起，团结稳定、和平繁荣成为历代中国人更加强烈的向往和追求。

Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of Qin Dynasty, who ordered the creation of the terracotta army and the alignment of the Great Wall, has a special place in the Chinese history for his contribution to bring the country into unification in 221 BC. Since then, the stronger yearning for unity and stability and the pursuit of peace and prosperity, has been deep in the heart of generations of the Chinese people.

今天，中国开启了民族复兴的伟大历史进程。自1978年改革开放以来，中国经济社会发展取得了巨大成就。40年来，按照可比价格计算，中国国内生产总值年均增长9.5%，对外贸易额年均增长14.5%。中国人民生活从短缺走向充裕、从贫困走向小康。

Today, China is in a great process of national rejuvenation. Over the past four decades, great strides have been made in China's economic and social development. Since the implementation of the reform and opening-up in 1978, GDP has averaged an annual growth rate of 9.5% in comparable prices, and its foreign trade has registered an annual growth of 14.5%. For average Chinese, this has meant emerging from a life of shortages and poverty, to one where many can enjoy a moderately prosperous life.

西安是兵马俑的故乡，也是古丝绸之路的起点。习近平主席提出的“一带一路”倡议，让古丝绸之路焕发时代生机。“一带一路”倡议是中国向世界提供的一项公共产品，通过政策沟通、设施联通、贸易畅通、资金融通和民心相通，推动构建人类命运共同体。

Xi'an, the home of Terracotta warriors, is also renowned as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road. The Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping has revitalized the ancient Silk Road in new era. It is a public good that China provides to the world to help build a community with a shared future for mankind through working together to achieve connectivity in policy, infrastructure, trade, finance and people-to-people exchange.

中新在很多领域优势互补。随着中国经济的不断发展和“一带一路”合作的不断深化，中新关系的未来将更加美好。希望两国继续加强人文交流，促进务实合作，增进互相了解和信任，更好地造福两国人民，为本地区乃至世界和平与繁荣作出贡献。

In many areas, China and New Zealand have comparative advantages that complement each other. It is fair to say that with the ongoing development of China's economy and deepening cooperation in Belt and Road Initiative, the future of China-New Zealand relations will remain strong. We hope China and New Zealand will continue to enhance mutual understanding and trust through more cultural and people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation to bring more benefits to both peoples and to contribute to the peace and prosperity in the region and beyond.
