Let me begin by sending my warmest greeting. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, I would like to extend my warm congratulations on the CGCC World Chinese Entrepreneur Summit in Hong Kong.
This Summit coincides with the 40the anniversary of China's reform and opening up. Over the past 40 years, Chinese entrepreneurs around the world have made great contribution to promoting China's economic and social progress and to enhancing China's friendly cooperation with other countries. You are important envoys who spread Chinese views, promote Chinese culture and strengthen the friendship between China and other countries. You have earned great respect for the Chinese people all over the world. You are the pride of all Chinese from every corner of the world.
China has entered a new era for building socialism with Chinese characteristics and the world is experiencing profound changes unseen in 100 years. But at the same time, anti-globalisation sentiments are surging. Populism and protectionism are on the rise. At this critical moment, I feel proud that Chinese entrepreneurs from around the world are gathered in Hong Kong to discuss development, cooperation and the opportunities created by the Belt and Road Initiative. This is a clear and strong message to the world! It is a message in support of free trade, win-win cooperation and multilateralism, and in opposition to protectionism, zero-sum game and unilateralism.
Next year will be the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It will be a milestone in the development of the Chinese nation. The "Golden Era" of China-UK relations will also enter a new period of accelerated progress. In October next year, the 15th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention will be held in London. This will be an event of immense significance for Chinese entrepreneurs around the world. I believe that at this Convention, overseas Chinese business community will grasp the trend of the times, focus on national rejuvenation. I am proud to have seen Chinatown grow greatly to what it is today and pool their wisdom to accomplish new feats worthy of history and our times, and to contribute to realize the "Chinese Dream" and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
