My visit to Malaysia shortly after its new government took office is meant to send a clear message to both countries and the international community: China attaches high importance to its relationship with Malaysia and always prioritizes Malaysia in its diplomacy, especially neighborhood diplomacy. China would continue with its friendly policies towards Malaysia to deepen bilateral cooperation and benefit people of both countries.
China values its relationship with Malaysia because both are developing countries, followers of independent foreign policies and champions of values of Asia. Both countries oppose power politics, remain committed to regional cooperation, especially East Asia integration, and believe in greater democracy in international relations. The common interests shared by China and Malaysia far outweigh the very few differences between the two countries, and China-Malaysia relations are of strategic significance beyond the scope of bilateral ties.
China maintains that all countries are equal, regardless of the sizes. We will not interfere in other countries' internal affairs, and this undoubtedly applies to Malaysia as well. China respects the choices made by the Malaysian people and supports Malaysia in following a path of development that suits its own national conditions. We are glad to see that since Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad took office, he has been heeding the voices of his people, thus injecting new momentum to Malaysia's national development. We have confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Mahathir, the people of Malaysia will stay united and achieve new glories and Malaysia is bound to play a more active and important role in regional and global affairs.
Another very important task for my visit to Malaysia is to make preparations for Prime Minister Mahathir's upcoming visit to China. Prime Minister Mahathir is a good friend of the Chinese people and such friendship goes back a long way. He has amicable feelings towards China because he understands and values China. We genuinely cherish our long-term friendship with him and believe that during his visit to China, there will be even stronger mutual trust built between leaders of our two countries and they will also jointly map out a new blueprint for the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
China appreciates Prime Minister Mahathir's support and participation in the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. The joint efforts of China and Malaysia, as natural partners in undertaking the initiative, will open up even greater prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation and for Prime Minister Mahathir to realize his vision for the country, uncover new potentials for bilateral cooperation, and contribute to common progress and common prosperity.
