, Y9 w9 `4 R6 S4 wThe New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team.  The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

( N: g$ `- G) ~$ @) ~+ L6 RKey tasks:
8 o! a2 e' R, V- q        •        Undertake research and analysis.
9 k' |9 o0 e, O& q8 B" y        •        Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.( u8 S; ?9 R2 U! `% l" ?
        •        Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
" E: P1 X: ]& K        •        Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.: o* l6 u, N* A% r- v
        •        Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.
6 S& k2 J* }8 \3 I        •        Translate official correspondence.

& o3 l; m4 G# UThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:% Z4 t& S% e2 \7 X9 C2 G* F
        •        High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
9 W+ w! w- l& Y+ R' I5 Z        •        Translation and interpretation skills.
) ?& o$ r4 X! f: i6 C9 N        •        Relevant tertiary qualification4 }: j! v0 t: b" j
        •        Research and analytical skills.
% Z7 Z0 o6 x6 g( p# w& b2 }        •        Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
' K$ [, G/ w' _        •        Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. 5 S8 }: D8 H7 i, L0 u, h
        •        Flexibility and adaptability.
- v' z/ B& m: E        •        Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
7 M0 v* ~  P# H# ?# ^8 @$ o# r        •        Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.% O6 K9 w5 ^% Z( K: \% `
        •        Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).% l# P8 B. Z+ E$ C8 R
        •        Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
