In this warm spring of April, Beijing embraces numerous flowers blossoming, grass flourishing and bird singing. It is the best time of a year in Beijing. In this lovely evening, we come together on the beautiful Yanqi bank to celebrate the grand opening of the 8th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF). On behalf of China Media Group, Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and the Organizing Committee of Beijing International Film Festival, I would like to extend warm welcomes to the Jury President and judges of "Tiantan Award", the filmmakers and film institutions from all over the world! I would like to express our sincere gratitude to our guests attending the opening ceremony, and also to our friends who support Chinese cinema.
The Beijing International Film Festival in its 8th year is a highly-regarded film festival and grand cultural event that has drawn international attention. Our goal here at the festival is to “Share the Screen, Shape the Future.” The film festival welcomes film talents, serves the public, leads the market, and aims to be international, professional, and creative. With this goal, the Beijing International Film Festival has become an annual cultural feast. Cinema is a universal language. This year’s film festival welcomes 15,000 guests from 300 domestic and international film institutions, from over 50 countries and regions. We all gather together here in Huairou, Beijing, to discuss the film development, which will inevitably promote prosperous development of the world's film art to a great extent.
Film is an amazing "time machine". We experience, comprehend and envisage the past, present and future through films. we can understand the contemporary society; and through films. The year 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. Forty years have seen tremendous changes in Chinese film industry and witnessed significant changes and achievements brought by the reform and opening-up policy. Today, China has indeed become the largest film producer and distributor in the world. In the new era, Chinese films will record more exciting histories and creat more wonderful miracles, and show a civilized, diversified, poetic and well-developed China to the world.
Beijing has a construction history of over 3,000 years, and its history as a capital lasts more than 800 years. Today, this ancient and modern city is pushing ahead with the development of a national cultural center guided by President Xi Jinping's Thought On Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in a New Era. We will illustrate the everlasting charm of Chinese culture and provide a broader communication and exchange platform for excellent cultures worldwide. Serving as an important window for construction of the national cultural center, BJIFF gathers excellent filmmakers, countless film masterpieces and enthusiastic film audiences, opening the door to limitless possibilities of the film development. I sincerely wish friends from all over the world enjoy this lovely spring in Beijing, relax in gorgeous lake and mountain views in this international metropolis, experiece the infinite charm of film art and leave wonderful memories. http://www.kouyi.org
Let's jointly bring more magnificent and awe-inspiring epics to the screen and develop BJIFF into a cultural feast featuring international vision, Chinese style and Beijing characteristics in the wave of film innovation and in line with the development trend in the new era!
“The willow trees sway in soft breeze, the river stream slowly flows through hush greeen mountains, and fragrant paths ring with cheers and laughter." These are lines of the poem Everlasting Longing by Poet Lin Shen during Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). With citing this Everlasting Longing poem, let's strengthen our friendship and discuss films together. I believe that you all have a great time in Huairou, a beautiful place with the picturesque landscape as Southern China. Wish this Beijing International Film Festival a great success! Thank you!
