On World Blood Donor Day, we highlight the life-saving power of blood transfusions. Voluntary blood donors come from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: they give of themselves to others – people they don’t even know.
Blood donations are the lifeline in emergencies, disasters, humanitarian crisis and for people who need regular transfusions. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, blood donors have continued to give. In so doing, they have provided an essential service to their communities and a safeguard for patients and health systems.
And yet, around the world, many communities do not have access to safe blood. Women and children are the most at risk. So, please give blood if you can, and give regularly.
