China divides its police into more than 20 categories based on their specific tasks.

When you call 110, the police hotline in China, an officer who picks up the phone is commonly known as a “public security police officer”, whose primary tasks include maintaining social order and dealing with minor unlawful activities.
But when a serious crime happens, it requires forces specializing in investigating criminal cases or the criminal police.

If a case involves narcotics, the “anti-drug police” will get involved whether it's foiling drug deals or chasing after traffickers.

The Chinese public is probably most familiar with the traffic police. Whether you're driving or walking about on the street, it's easy to spot these officers guiding and supervising road traffic,as well as dealing with violations.
Apart from these, there are also police personnel working in the judicial system. Their main duties include maintaining security and judicial departments, including the courts and procuratorates. They also help with the transportation of defendants and prisoners between courts, jails and assist in law enforcement.
