Today COVID-19 has spread to more than 210 countries and regions. Globally, there are over 20 million confirmed cases. Responding to this devastating disease, China began to fight the virus, but what tactic has been key to this battle?
In the early days of the outbreak, cases soared in china. The country quickly adopted the most comprehensive and rigorous containment measures, including an unprecedented scale of quarantine and isolation. These broke the chain of transmission and restricted a wider spread of the virus.
At the same time, China mobilize medical resources nationwide and dispatched all necessary supplies and equipment to the hardest hit places. From newborn children to centenarians, as long as there was the slightest hope, doctors would not give up no matter what the cost. All the treatment was free.
In Hubei Province, more than 3,000 COVID-19 patients over the age of 80 have been cured, including seven centenarians. A seventy-year-old patient came back from the verge of death after weeks of intensive treatment and care by more than ten medics. The cost of his treatment over $219,000 was fully covered by government funds.
China has suffered tremendously in the war against COVID-19. Its economy was under great pressure and growth dipped in the first quarter of this year. But given the choice between people's lives and health and economic development, China has never wavered in choosing the former.
