It is a great pleasure for me to congratulate the Peoples Republic of China on its 60 years anniversary.
值此中华人民共和国成立六十周年华诞,我很高兴送上自己的祝福。
Denmark was the first Western allied country to recognise the Peoples Republic of China in 1950. Shortly afterwards Denmark established its Embassy here in Beijing and China established its embassy in Copenhagen. Since then, the Danish Government has continuously maintained a firm and unequivocal one China Policy in support of the Peoples Republic of China.
Since 1949, China has come a long way. Hundreds of millions have been lifted out of poverty. Chinese citizens have a much freer choice in terms of how they lead their lives. The Chinese economy is strong and growing. And China is playing a greater role in world affairs. These positive developments started with the creation of the Peoples Republic of China and greatly accelerated by the policy of reforming and opening up adopted in 1978.
In the last few years, the Chinese government has focused more on creating a harmonious society based on a scientific concept of development. China now put more emphasis on balancing economic growth and on reducing the cost to the environment. Also in this respect, China is now developing very rapidly. China is emerging as a world leader in green technology and China is expected to play an important role at the UN meeting on climate change in Copenhagen this December. As you know, this is the meeting that should adopt a new global agreement in combating climate change for the years to come.
Denmark welcomes and applauds the success of China. We believe that what is good for China is good for the world. We believe that it is right for China to play a greater role internationally. And we believe that China has a lot to contribute.
So in conclusion, let me extend all my best wishes for the People’s Republic of China and for its ambitious and hard working people. I wish you happiness, prosperity and success. And I hope and expect that you will achieve just as much in the next 60 years as you have achieved until now.
